Ingenuity Announces Featured Programming for 14th Annual IngenuityFest: FuturePast, September 28-30, 2018

Cleveland, OH (August 15, 2018) Ingenuity Cleveland announced earlier this year that the 14th annual IngenuityFest 2018: FuturePast will again take place at the Hamilton Collaborative at 5401 Hamilton Avenue in St Clair Superior. IngenuityFest is a three-day, large-scale festival of creativity and innovation, offering dance performances, interactive art installations, maker activities, live music, artisan vendors, local food and more.

This year’s Festival highlights the work of The Ingeneers, Ingenuity’s volunteer-driven artist community who meet every week in the space to imagine and have created the colorful mash-ups of historical themes and eras that will greet visitors throughout the festival.

Ingenuity’s Artistic Director, Emily Appelbaum, said the following about this year’s programming, “The FuturePast theme was chosen to celebrate innovation throughout the ages and the great thinkers who have pushed the boundaries of imagination. This year’s Fest creates a retro-futuristic dreamscape, with areas like Lava Lounge and Dino’s Den (complete with archeology pit), the Time Traveler’s Tavern, and Future Fronteirs. The Hamilton Collaborative will come alive with the hum of imagination from hundreds of creators, as well as the dozen permanent creative businesses who call the collaborative home.”

IngenuityFest 2018 also welcomes favorite artists and villages from Festivals past, and is especially excited to feature:

Squonk Opera, returning to IngenuityFest with Pneumatica spectacular: an event all about air, while live original music that permeates the surrounding air, inflatables pump up and immerse the audience. As the Squnokers play their instruments, tentacles and other spectacles grow to form the 40-foot tall Lady Pneumatica.

OSHUN, an independent Hip-Hop / Soul duo and the sonic manifestation of Afrofuturism. Using digital and acoustic sounds, heavy drums and bass, and ambient harmonic textures, OSHUN connects with the spirit of their ancestors to manifest a sweeter tomorrow for us all.

A myriad of dance types from local groups and site-specific works created for the multi-surface sculptural Tesseract stage, including Changing Landscapes: an artistic collaboration between Ingenuity and MorrisonDance, and the continuation of the groundbreaking 2017 IngenuityFest collaboration, Leaping Off the Wall.

New youth programming including youth vendors from the Young Entrepreneurs Institute, and the Ingenuity Unplugged Trading Post, where young voyagers can plan their journey, craft the accoutrements needed for time travel, visit kid-friendly vendors, or take a much-needed break in a kid-friendly quiet zone.

IngenuityLabs, our growing incubator providing tools, space and networking opportunities with an eye toward fostering entrepreneurship, especially among traditionally excluded populations, and connecting local entrepreneurs with the region’s young adults.

Projects from more than a dozen 2018 IngenuityLabs incubator members will be featured, including our newest additions:
MAYA project by Dave Biro/Cleveland Design Studios
Tesla Orchestra
AstroCelt
Matthew Hummel and Nate Clark Fire Arts
MetalMorphosis
Ronald Nelson Mobile Food Trailers
Makers Alliance
Fire and Light Performing Arts
Madeline Finn Music

IngenuityFest: FuturePast will also continue to showcase sustainability initiatives, including Mechanique Biotique, the rebirth of a former scrapyard onsite, now a blooming teaching garden, in partnership with Rust Belt Riders. We feature bike parking and activities from local groups, and strive toward zero waste in all our activities.

Admittance to the Festival is $5 for a one-day pass and $10 for the weekend. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets to IngenuityFest are on sale now at ingenuityfest2018.eventbrite.com.
