FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 5/31/2018
Ingenuity Cleveland’s Time Traveler’s Bal June 16, 2018 An Artistic Homage to Future and Past!
Each spring, Ingenuity Cleveland unites and showcases the region’s artists, makers, and creatives with its fundraiser Bals . . . Join us in supporting our Future and Celebrating our Past!
This year’s fundraiser is the Time Traveler’s Bal – a magical journey through the ages –which will take place on Saturday, June 16 from 8:00 pm until 1:00 am June 17 at IngenuityLabs, Ingenuity’s headquarters in the Hamilton Collaborative at 5401 Hamilton Avenue, Cleveland.
The Time Traveler’s Bal will transport attendees through a scientist’s homemade time machine, opening portals to the future and the past. Guests will explore a variety of themed areas including a 1920s speakeasy, a Victorian French court, the remnants of the Earth’s volcanic beginning, and a pristine futuristic setting, all while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and refreshments from featured local restaurants and beverage partners, including Platform Beer and Watershed Distillery. Attendees are invited to get creative and dress to prepare for such a journey through space and time – whether goggles and boots, spacesuits, corset and gloves, or other costumes.
The Time Traveler’s Bal supports IngenuityFest 2018: FuturePast. The Festival, now in its fourteenth year, will take place September 28-30 at the Hamilton Collaborative. Proceeds also support Ingenuity’s year-round programming including the IngenuityLabs small creative business incubator, the volunteer-driven arts group The Ingeneers, and the newly-launched Ignite! entrepreneurship education series.
“We are excited to introduce our 2018 theme FuturePast at the Time Traveler’s Bal,” says Artistic Director Emily Appelbaum, “to celebrate the history of our organization and our region as a center for manufacturing and creativity. FuturePast melds a sense of nostalgia with excitement for the future of arts collaboration and innovation in our neighborhood and across Cleveland. Like our previous Bals Ingenieux and Aquatique, the Time Traveler’s Bal makes reference to the historic masked bals of the Kokoon Club and evokes the city’s vitality during the early 20th century as a hub for the innovative and avant garde.”
Entertainment at the Time Traveler’s Bal will highlight a variety of local musicians, performance artists, makers, builders, and other creative characters. Musical performances touch on a range of styles throughout time, including Maddie Finn, front woman for the indie rock band Whiskey Hollow; neo-harpist Stephan Haluska; hurdgurdler Brian McCoy and electronic flute and cello duo IN2ATIVE, and electronic dance music by Unplanned Crew. Performance art includes dance works by MorrisonDance, theatrics by the Maelstrom Art Collective, flow art by Fire and Light Performing Arts, and choreographed acro-yoga and trapeze by Jaime Bouvier and Stardrop Circus.
General presale tickets are $25 ($35 at the door), and VIP tickets are $65. VIP tickets are partially tax-deductible and include two drink tickets and a tour of the 300,000 square foot Hamilton Collaborative complex (tour begins at 8:15pm, involves stairs, and sturdy shoes recommended). Light food included for all guests. Cash bar. Event is ages 21 and up. Purchase tickets on Eventbrite.
Community members interested in volunteering at the event or helping transform the IngenuityLabs warehouse space can attend an upcoming art workshop held at the Hamilton Collaborative by joining The Ingeneers on Facebook, or sign up to volunteer at the event online.
