Programming, Partners, and More Come Together to Make IngenuityFest 2017 Eco-Friendly

Cleveland, OH (September 18, 2017) – Ingenuity announced that this year’s IngenuityFest will be more sustainable and eco-friendly. Partners include Cleveland Water, Rust Belt Riders, Ohio City Bike Co-Op, and Vegware.

Cleveland Water will be providing their Water Buggy during three sessions at the Festival, offering fresh water in paper cups. Food vendors will use all paper products and biodegradable beer and drink cups from Vegware, a company that makes low-carbon catering disposables from renewable materials.

Rust Belt Riders, an Ingenuity partner and member of the Hamilton Collaborative, will compost these materials on site. Festival attendees can visit the Rust Belt Riders operation in their exhibit, Closed Loop, located in the Forest Foundry village, and learn about their innovative process to transform food waste into compost and animal feed. Additionally, Rust Belt Riders will be offering composting workshops Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 1 and 3pm.

“At Ingenuity, we believe that innovation, creativity, and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. This year IngenuityFest is going to walk the walk, starting down the path towards a zero-waste event.” says Karen Kidwell, Ingenuity’s Interim Executive Director, “Our new home at the Hamilton Collaborative near Lake Erie is a constant reminder of the treasured resource we all share. Plastic and other debris is accumulating in lakes and oceans, and one way to reduce the amount is to use fewer single-use plastic cups, water bottles, Styrofoam containers, and plastic straws. So this year we’re taking some big steps on the road to zero waste.”

Furthermore, Ohio City Bicycle Co-op is helping the Fest reduce car trips by offering
free bicycle racks (bring your own lock) and a pop-up bike kitchen for basic bike repairs at the 53rd Street entrance. Slow Roll Cleveland will celebrate IngenuityFest with a one-hour ride that starts on Saturday, September 23 at 2 pm at the Marquette gate entrance through the St. Clair-Superior neighborhood. Riders will receive discounted tickets for the Festival, and can enjoy a pop-up bike kitchen and other fun bike groups and activities.

IngenuityFest is September 22-24, 2017 at the Hamilton Collaborative in Saint Clair-Superior (5401 Hamilton Avenue). Adult tickets are $5 for a day pass or $10 for a weekend pass. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available for purchase in advance at ingenuityfest2017.eventbrite.com or at the gate.
